Absolutely Guilt Free Onion Dip
Yes, you read that correctly and this dip tastes even better then sour cream dips because of the consistency. No one will know this dip is not full of calories because it tastes like it is. This dip is great for:
- Sandwich spread
- Baked potato chips or regular of course, pretzels
- Any vegetables you love
- Salad dressing (if you add more liquids)
Also variations of this dip will be posted below the recipe. I'm not going to pair a wine with this, but I suggest you open whatever you want as the only meal without wine should be breakfast. ;-)
What you need:
Cottage cheese (200 grams) any milk fat percentage you want
1/4-1/2 Tsp salt (adjust to your tastes)
1/4 Tsp pepper
1 1/2 Tsp Onion powder
1 Tbsp Dried chives
1 Tbsp White vinegar
1/4 Tsp red pepper flakes or more if you want
1 Tsp dried onion pieces (found in the spice section of your store)
Let's get to work:
- Place all ingredients in a food processor and leave on for about 3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Scrape in a bowl and top with some extra chives and dried onion pieces and serve with whatever you like to use with dip. The only true calories are in the cottage cheese you use and cottage cheese is loaded with protein, so you get so full quickly.
Variations
Mexican style:
Along with the original recipe, add 1 Tbsp taco mix and squeeze of fresh lime.
Ranch:
You can either buy a packet of ranch dressing mix and add that as you would to make regular dip with sour cream. OR you can add 1 Tbsp of buttermilk powder to the original recipe along with 1 Tsp garlic powder
Honey Mustard:
Along with the original recipe add 1 Tbsp honey, 1 Tbsp hot mustard, 1/2 Tsp garlic powder
For Dressing:
If you want to turn any of these into dressing, add water until you get the consistency you are looking for in your dressing.
You can be creative with these dips and add whatever spices you have in your spice drawer to customize one for yourself.
